Wolfram Schumacher, who broke one of his rib when he slided on an icy part of the mushers parking at the Megeve Altiport, had to quit during the stage 8. The race direction has athorised his handler, Michael Kirchner, to drive his team during the last stages of the race. Wolfram asked the race direction for it because he wanted the dogs to keep on getting a great experience and getting fit. Despite his sadness, Wolfram was smiling on the mushers parking lot this morning. Some of his fellow competitors were trying jokes to make him laugh. Everybody knows how painful it is to laugh woth a broken rib.

Martin Bily had a wond on the cheekbone this morning. The third place musher had an accident on the trail yesterday. But it didn't happened during the stage. The arrival of the 8th stage was given on the polar base. The mushers had to drive their teams down the pass to reach Lanslevillard in non-timed transfer. In the way down, his dogs cut a bend, forcing the sled to follow them in a technical shortcut. One of the snow hook jumped out of its holster and fell on the groung. Martin went down on his knees to try to get it, but the snwo hook suddendly hit the trail and stopped the sled. Martin was violently thrown against the handle bar, that he hit with his cheek bone. The handle bar got twisted and his cheekbone wounded. This incident hasn't changed his good mood and will to race. He'll just have to use another sled.
