Sigrid Ekran has left Tolga, the last checkpoint, after her 8-hours mandatory rest. Inger Marie Haaland followed her 23 minutes later. Robert Sorlie will be allowed to leave the checkpoint 1 hour after Sigrid (this was the gap separing them when they arrive there.)
If Sigrid and Inger Marie Haaland don't falter, Sorlie will not be able to catch up with them on the 95 km of the last stretch before reaching Roros. If Sigrid owns a 23 mn lead, she's got 9 dogs whereas Inger Marie still drives a full team (12 dogs). That is a real performance at such a competitive level and on such a tough trail.
It will be a premiere if a women becomes the Femundlopet 600 champion. Sigrid noticed on her website that 20 years ago Susan Butcher won her last Iditarod. Sigrid has learned a lot with Susan in Alaska, before the 4-times Iditarod champion lost her battle against cancer.
Inger Marie Haaland is the Finnmarkslopet 1000 reigning champion.
Sigrid Ekran has won the first race of her carrier in january: theGausdal Marathon (200 km.)
The first team is awaited in Roros around 17:00.
