La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc adventure showcases breathtaking sceneries. In order to maintain harmony between man, nature and animal, La Grande Odyssée gets involved in being ecologically responsible and socially active.

Sled-dog racing is a "low impact" activity as the only mark it leaves in nature is the footprint of the musher and his dogs in the snow: A mark which will disappear with the first gust of wind or snowfall.
Also, in the collective imagination, sled-dog racing conjures up the harmony between man and nature, and therefore a certain form of respect for the environment. Generally speaking, La Grande Odyssée Savoie-Mont-Blanc is a responsible event and a way of practicing sustainable development.

On an ecological level

  • LGO saves energy by optimizing its entire staff’s travel before, during and after the race (minimum of vehicles, maximum of car-sharing, travel by train where possible, etc.), as well as competitors during the race (road map, organization of convoys, etc.).
  • LGO limits use of paper by sending almost all documents it produces by email and printing, where necessary, as many documents as possible on both sides of the paper.
  • LGO favors biodegradable and recycled material (recycled or PEFC-certified paper, barrier tape made from starch, recycles its print cartridges, etc.).
  • LGO makes up for its CO2 emissions through the CO2 Solidaire program developed by GERES.

On an social level

  • LGO encourages associations which want to show off educational and/or solidarity projects through the Grande Odyssée Savoie-Mont-Blanc (Association Rêves, Association Prioriterre, Association Natur’a-venir, etc).
  • LGO has an impact on local communities by allowing professionals and inhabitants from the various resorts to work on a single wide-ranging and uniting project (traditionally sporting events involve only one resort). From production of routes to design of safety plans via communications and preparation of the slopes, a large number of people are involved at all resorts, in dozens of work and coordination meetings.
  • LGO uses disabled workers calling on ESAT (Occupational Assistance Establishments and Services), particularly in the manufacturing of signposting equipment.

On an economic level

  • LGO participates in the development of the local economy, particularly tourism, as a result of its Grande Odyssée trips offered to partners as well as the general public (through resorts).
  • LGO favors local service providers, since 50% of La Grande Odyssée’s services providers are based in Savoie and Haute Savoie.
