Why become a La Grande Odyssée volunteer?

Volunteering means taking part in a fantastic human adventure.
Be warned, this is not a holiday we are offering, we can even guarantee you that you will return home very tired but... happy.

Who volunteers for La Grande Odyssée?

The staff members have very different profiles. From students to retired people, they are engineers, fire-fighters, secretaries, physiotherapists, soldiers, vets, communications executives, civil servants, etc.
At the end of La Grande Odyssée Savoie-Mont-Blanc 2008, 70% of volunteers said their motivation came from their interest in the world of sled dogs, while almost 90% were looking above all for a group adventure and to meet new people.

What are the roles of La Grande Odyssée volunteers?

The role of volunteers on the LGO Staff can be very varied: management assistant, driver, logistics manager, secretary, timekeeper, vet, communications, photographer, IT manager, etc.

What are the conditions for taking part?

Except for particular roles defined each year by LGO, all roles require a presence from Friday 12th prior to the start of the race to Wednesday 22nd after the race arrives. It is therefore necessary for volunteers who want to apply to organize the LGO to be available for the two weeks of the race. It is also vital for volunteers to have a driving license.

What costs are covered for LGO Staff?

As soon as the LGO Staff arrive on site, volunteers are entirely provided for in terms of meals and transport. Furthermore, from arrival on site, the Staff is dressed by LGO in its brand colors, depending on the role (at least a parka).
