The stage podium

Following the ranking of the stage, the first 3 climb on the podium and are rewarded by the docking station of the day and the stage partner.

Daily racing bibs

At each end of the stage, the folllowed bibs are given to the mushers :

The “Leader” bib, sponsored by the Crédit Mutuel, is given at the end of each stage (Limited and Open) to the 1st of the general classification.

The “Leader Nordic” bib, sponsored by the Crédit Mutuel,  rewards daily the team composed entirely of pure-bred Nordic dogs (often Siberian Huskies) best ranked in the general classification.

The “Dog Care” bib, sponsored by Royal Canin, is given to the musher whose behavior towards his dogs on the stage will have marked the spirits.

The podium final and the special prices

The generals rankings determine the final podiums and reward the finishers of the race. Various prizes are offered to the mushers by the various partners of the event.

  • THE HENRY KAM PRICE
    This price is given to the winner of the Val Cenis stage ( a two-day race including a night in a bivouac), as a tribute to the race organizer.
  • THE GOLDEN HARNESS PRICE
    PriCe awarded to the most impressive dog of the winning team, chosen by the musher.
  • THE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR PRICE
    The price rewarded the musher who finishes the race in the best position among those who participate in the competition for the first time, or who never finished it
  • THE RED LANTERN PRICE
    The price is awarded to the last musher in the general classification among those who took part and finished all the stages of the race in their totality.
    This is a tradition in the world of mushing that goes back to the gold rush. At that time, as long as a musher stayed on the track, the lantern would stay lit, it would only be turned off on his return.
  • THE FAIR PLAY PRICE, sponsored by ALPES ISHERE
    Price given to the musher of La Grande Odyssée VVF who has shown the most Fair Play and sporting spirit towards the other racers. This price is awarded by the mushers.
  • THE BEST DOG CARE PRICE, sponsored by ROYAL CANIN
    This price is an award presented by the entire veterinary team following examinations of dogs entered in the competition. Team scoring will take place on three occasions: after the first day exam, at the halfway point, and after the finish of the last day. The team’s veterinarians use a grid of 5 criteria to establish their ranking. These evaluations will allow the teams to be ranked and the best dog care award to be awarded on the final podium.
  • THE COMBATIVITY PRICE, sponsored by SUZUKI
    Price awarded to the competitor who has accomplished a “remarkable” action over time or at a specific time during the race which demonstrates energy, resistance and the will to never be discouraged in order to reach his goal. This in a sporting spirit, respecting all the safety rules and the rules of the race and having crossed the finish line in the allotted time, the position in the general classification not being taken into account.
  • THE HANDLER PRICE
    Price given to the handler(s) of a single team. The team concerned is chosen by the vets and the mushers’ relations, by vote, on several criteria: dogcare and knowledge of the evolution of the dogs’ health from one day to the next, good mood, degree of help for the musher to rest, knowledge of the race, relationship with the organisation teams, respect of the timetable, control of the dogs on the start/finish line, maintenance of the cleanliness of the sites… (non-exhaustive list);
